Tips for choosing a name

  • Decide the subgenre first. A classic western wants two or three flinty words (Broken Spur, Red Sundown); a spaghetti western wants a whole sentence with a threat or a price in it.
  • Put a real-sounding frontier place in the title (Laredo, Lordsburg, Bitter Creek) to ground it instantly; invented towns work if they follow the same pattern of word plus Creek, Gulch, Wells or Pass.
