Vintage wedding table names to use instead of numbers, in matching sets: objects like The Gramophone and Pocket Watch, dances like Charleston and Lindy Hop, classic films such as Roman Holiday, swing standards like Moonlight Serenade, grand hotels, teas, cocktails like French 75 and fabrics like Chantilly Lace.

About vintage wedding table names

A vintage wedding gives table names more to work with than numbers ever could. The objects on the tables, the songs the band plays and the old films you both love can each become a card. What matters is that the cards match: a set works when every table comes from one idea, so this list is built in sets, each deep enough for twenty tables.

The sets are vintage objects (The Typewriter, The Gramophone, Pocket Watch, Steamer Trunk, Teacup), eras and design styles from Georgian to Mid-Century Modern, dances such as Charleston, Foxtrot and Lindy Hop, classic film titles, jazz and swing standards, waltzes and parlor songs, grand hotels, named trains and ocean liners, teas, old-fashioned sweets, classic cocktails, fabrics and trimmings, classic novels, poets and poems, heirloom garden flowers, picture palaces and ballrooms, parlor games, period colors, vintage sayings and a few motor cars.

The generator deals names from every set at once, and the full list at the end of the page runs A to Z. Choose a set first, then keep the names that belong to it as new batches come up. Film, song and book titles and the names of hotels, trains and ships are real, spelled the way you would print them, and this page has no connection to any of them.

How to choose vintage wedding table names

  • Count your tables before you choose a set, then keep two spare names from the same set for late changes to the seating plan.
  • Let the styling decide. Stacked books and teacups as centerpieces point to the novels or the teas, and a swing band points to the standards or the dances.
  • Keep one era per set if period detail matters to you. Charleston is a 1920s dance, while Moonlight Serenade and In the Mood are big band recordings from the end of the 1930s.
  • Print titles exactly, with their accents and punctuation: Belle Époque, Crêpe de Chine, Singin' in the Rain and 'S Wonderful all look wrong without them.
  • Pair a card with a prop where you can: old paperbacks for Persuasion, a cup and saucer for Earl Grey, sheet music for Cheek to Cheek.

Frequently asked questions

What are good vintage wedding table names?

Objects are the easiest set to style, for example The Typewriter, The Gramophone, The Music Box, Pocket Watch and Cameo. A crowd that likes to dance may enjoy Charleston, Foxtrot and Quickstep, and film lovers can sit at Roman Holiday, Top Hat or Funny Face. Teas, cocktails and fabrics such as Earl Grey, Sidecar and Chantilly Lace work well when you want short names.

How do I get a matching set from the generator?

The names come up mixed, so decide on a set first and collect as you go. Generate a batch, save the names that fit, and repeat until you have one per table. The A to Z list at the bottom of the page helps you find the last two or three.

Which names suit a 1920s or Art Deco wedding?

Start with the cocktails French 75, Sidecar and Bee's Knees and the dances Charleston and Foxtrot. Art Deco, Jazz Age and Roaring Twenties come from the eras set, and The Great Gatsby from the novels. Mixing two of these sets is fine as long as every card still belongs to the same decade.

Are the film, song and hotel names real?

Yes. Titles such as Roman Holiday and Moonlight Serenade, hotels such as The Savoy and trains such as The Flying Scotsman are real, and they appear here as plain references for a table card. This site is not affiliated with any film, song, book, hotel, railway or shipping line named in the list.
