Wedding table names to use in place of numbers, in themes you can pull a matching set from: places like Amalfi and Kyoto, flowers like Peony, wines like Chardonnay, constellations like Orion, gemstones, national parks, love words such as Amour and milestones like First Date.

About wedding table names

Naming reception tables instead of numbering them does two jobs: nobody is seated at "table 14", and the cards tell guests something about the two of you. The trick is that the names have to match. A set only works when every table comes from one theme, so this list is built from themes, each deep enough to cover ten to twenty tables.

The themes are cities and towns (Amalfi, Kyoto, Seville), islands and coasts (Santorini, Maui, Big Sur), flowers, trees, wines and grape varieties, constellations and the night sky, national parks, mountains, gemstones, months and seasons, love words in other languages (Amour, Liebe, Aloha) and milestones from a relationship (First Date, The Proposal, The Road Trip). There is also a small set of couples from classic novels, Shakespeare's comedies and myth, such as Elizabeth & Darcy.

The generator deals names from all the themes at once, and the full list at the end of the page runs A to Z. To build a set, decide on a theme first, then keep the names that belong to it as you generate new batches. Every entry is short enough for a table card, and the places, grapes, stars and parks are real ones, spelled the way you would print them.

How to choose wedding table names

  • Count your tables before you choose a theme, then add one or two spare names for late changes to the seating plan.
  • Make it personal where you can. Cities you have visited together or milestones such as First Date and Our First Home give guests something to ask about.
  • Pick a theme without an obvious ranking. Flowers and constellations feel equal, while a guest at Onyx may wonder why another table got Diamond.
  • Copy accents exactly when you print: Gewürztraminer, Haleakalā, Mon Cœur and San Sebastián all lose something without them.
  • List the names in alphabetical order on the seating chart and put a small sign on each table, so guests and the catering team can find a name as fast as a number.

Frequently asked questions

How many table names do I need for a wedding?

One for every guest table, plus the head or sweetheart table if you want it to match. Round tables usually seat eight to ten people, so a wedding of 120 guests needs about twelve to fifteen names. The larger themes in this list each hold more than thirty, which leaves room to choose your favorites.

What are good themes for wedding table names?

Places are a common choice, because each one can stand for a trip: Amalfi, Lisbon, Kyoto, Santorini. Nature themes suit an outdoor or garden wedding, for example Peony, Wisteria and Silver Birch, or Yosemite, Zion and Acadia. For an evening reception try wines such as Pinot Noir and Prosecco, or the night sky with Orion, Lyra and Cassiopeia.

How do I get a matching set from the generator?

The names come up mixed, so choose the theme first and collect as you go. Generate a batch, keep the names that fit, and repeat until you have one per table. The A to Z list at the bottom of the page is handy for finding the last two or three.

Can we name tables after famous couples?

Yes. The list includes a short run of couples from books and legend with happy endings, such as Elizabeth & Darcy, Beatrice & Benedick, Anne & Gilbert and Odysseus & Penelope. If you want a whole reception of couples, the couples name generator linked on this page has many more.
