Generate Tomb Kings names for Warhammer in the Nehekharan style: kings with boastful epithets like Rakhotar the Unyielding, queens like Queen Tephira the Lawful, liche priests, necrotects, chariot lords, walking statues, dynasties and short names for a Blood Bowl roster such as Khut the Wall.

About Tomb Kings names

The Tomb Kings of Warhammer are the mummified rulers of Nehekhara, woken in their pyramids and still certain that the world is theirs. Their names sound Egyptian without being real Egyptian names: hard k and kh sounds, endings such as -ep, -aph, -akh and -zzar, and above all titles. Settra the Imperishable, High Queen Khalida, Arkhan the Black and Ramhotep the Visionary set the pattern.

Most of this list is kings with one grand epithet, such as Rakhotar the Unyielding or Khutekh the Patient. A smaller share carries the long, solemn title strings the faction is loved for, kept perfectly straight-faced: Wakhep, Mighty Lion of a Fairly Large Desert. Around them stands the rest of a royal host: queens and princesses, tomb princes and heralds, liche priests of the Mortuary Cult, necrotects, Tomb Guard captains, chariot lords and the statues that walk.

For army backgrounds there are dynasties, legions and lost cities in the pattern of Khemri and Lybaras, and for the pitch there are short roster names like Khut the Wall. A handful of well-known characters and cities appear as style anchors; everything else is a new name in the same manner. This is a fan resource with no connection to Games Workshop.

How to choose Tomb Kings names

  • Give a king one epithet that says what he boasts of: conquest (the Far-Conquering), endurance (the Sleepless) or wealth (the Gilded). Two epithets start to read as a title string, which is a joke of its own.
  • Use rank to place a character in the host. Tomb Prince, Tomb Herald, Liche Priest, Hierophant or Necrotect in front of a name tells a reader at once who serves whom.
  • Attach a city. Adding 'of Numas' or 'of Zandri' ties a character to the setting, and an invented city such as Khezmar or Tep-Sharat gives a homebrew dynasty a home of its own.
  • For a title string, start grand and let the last title slip: Dhekhaf, Lord of the Four Winds, Tenant of One Pyramid. Keep it to three titles so it still fits on a roster.
  • Blood Bowl rosters want names a commentator can shout. Short forms with a nickname, such as Tep Quickbones or Rakh Tombstone, work better there than a full royal style.

Frequently asked questions

What do Tomb Kings names sound like?

They are invented names with an ancient Egyptian flavor, not real Egyptian ones: Settra, Khalida, Khatep, Nekaph. Hard consonants, kh and ph sounds and endings like -ep, -akh and -zzar are typical, and most named characters carry an epithet or a title, as in Settra the Imperishable.

Are these real Egyptian names?

No. The list leaves out real pharaohs, queens and Egyptian gods and uses invented names in the Nehekharan manner, such as Rakhotar the Unyielding and Queen Tephira the Lawful. For historical names, try the pharaoh and mummy name generators instead.

Which names in the list come from Warhammer itself?

Only a few, as anchors for the style: Settra the Imperishable, High Queen Khalida, Arkhan the Black, Grand Hierophant Khatep, Prince Apophas, King Phar, Ramhotep the Visionary, Nekaph and Alcadizaar the Conqueror, plus the cities Khemri, Lybaras, Numas, Zandri and Quatar. A few titles also name the setting's gods Ptra, Asaph, Djaf and Usirian. Some of the long title strings also borrow or bend titles from Settra's own famous list, such as Great Hawk of the Heavens. Those belong to Games Workshop, so keep them to hobby and fan projects; the rest are new names in the same style.

Can I use these for Total War: Warhammer or Blood Bowl?

Yes. Total War: Warhammer lets you rename lords and heroes, so any of the king, prince and priest names will fit there. The short roster names such as Khut the Wall and Zar Longpass suit a Tomb Kings Blood Bowl team, and the dynasties and legions work as army names for The Old World.
