Slime names live at the intersection of cute and gross. Because a slime has no face, fur, or fixed shape, its name does most of the work of giving it a personality — Goobert is a lovable idiot, Fester is something you don't want in your basement, and Rimuru is a protagonist. The most common approach is onomatopoeia: words that sound like the thing moving (Blorp, Squelch, Gloop, Splodge). The second is food, since translucent wobbly things naturally remind people of jelly, custard, boba, and mochi. Adding a human-name suffix (Slimothy, Gooseppe, Oozelynn) turns any of these into a character.

Games have built their own conventions. Dragon Quest slimes are cheerful and pun-heavy (Healslime, She-Slime, Metal Slime), Slime Rancher names slimes by trait or diet (Tabby, Phosphor, Rad, Boom, Gordo), Terraria and Minecraft go by color and size, and Dungeons & Dragons treats oozes as horrors with descriptive names like Gelatinous Cube, Black Pudding, and Ochre Jelly. Anime slimes such as Rimuru Tempest lean toward proper names, treating the slime as a person rather than a species.

When naming your own, decide first whether the slime is a pet, a monster, or a person. Pets want soft consonants and double letters (Blobby, Wubble); monsters want harder sounds and words for decay (Curdle, Miasma, Rancid); characters want a name you could put on a birthday card.
