Short Person Nickname Generator
Fun size nicknames for the short friend you love
Affectionate, funny nicknames for a short friend, partner, sibling or teammate, such as Fun Size, Espresso Shot, Carry-On, Five Foot Fury and Captain Compact. They are written as friendly teasing, not as insults.
About this generator
A good nickname for a short friend treats height as a feature. The pattern behind most of this list is simple: take something small that people like and use it as a name. That gives small foods such as Mini Muffin, Tater Tot and Espresso Shot, small animals and plants such as Wren, Ladybug and Acorn, and packaging jokes such as Travel Size, Sample Size and Carry-On.
The 1,000 nicknames come in more than a dozen styles, so rerolls feel different. There are measure jokes (Five Foot Fury, Knee High), small but mighty names (Firecracker, Spark Plug, Tugboat), jokes about the perks of being short (Limbo Champion, Legroom King, Front Row), mock titles (Captain Compact, Duchess of the Lower Shelf), rhymes on first names (Petite Pete, Short Mort), storybook small folk (Pixie, Thumbling) and sweet ones for a partner or a child (Little Bean, Pocket Sweetheart). A small share are the classics everyone knows, such as Shorty and Half-Pint.
The list was drafted as friendly teasing and screened for slurs and medical terms. Even so, a nickname only works when the person wearing it likes it. Offer one, watch the reaction, and drop it for good if it does not get a smile.
Tips for choosing a name
- Ask first, or let your friend pick. The nicknames that last are the ones the short person chooses or repeats. If they wince, retire it at once.
- Match the nickname to the person, not only to the height. A fast talker suits Espresso Shot, a fierce competitor suits Five Foot Fury and a calm friend suits Down to Earth.
- Swap the first name in the rhyming style. Petite Pete and Short Mort are patterns: keep the size word and add your friend's name, or a name that rhymes with it.
- Change the title to fit. King, Queen, Duke, Duchess, Sir and Lady all swap freely, so Legroom King becomes Legroom Queen and Captain Compact fits anyone.
- Keep it among people who know the friendship. A height nickname that is funny in your group chat can land badly in front of strangers, a class or a workplace.
Frequently asked questions
What are some funny names to call a short person?
Try a small thing that people like: Fun Size, Travel Size, Espresso Shot, Carry-On, Pocket Edition or Bottom Shelf. For a friend with a big personality, Five Foot Fury, Firecracker and Spark Plug fit well. All of these are in the list, along with mock titles such as Captain Compact.
Are these nicknames mean?
They are written as friendly teasing, the kind a short friend might pick for themselves, and the list was screened for slurs and medical terms. Whether a nickname is kind still depends on the person, so use it only if they like it.
What is a cute nickname for a short girlfriend or boyfriend?
The sweet style suits a partner: Little Bean, Pocket Sweetheart, Pocket Sunshine, Tiny Treasure or My Fun Size. The perks jokes also read as affection, for example Perfect Hug Height. Say it once and see whether it makes them smile.
Can I use these for a jersey, a gamer tag or a contact name?
Yes. Short ones such as Turbo, Acorn, Wren and Slider fit a jersey or a gamer tag, and longer ones such as Duchess of the Lower Shelf work as a contact name or a group chat label. Check with the person before it goes on anything other people will read.
