About Rainbow Brite names

Rainbow Brite arrived in 1984 as a Hallmark character line with dolls and a cartoon, and its names all run on one recipe: take a color or a word for light and work it into a friendly name. The Color Kids and friends show how. Red Butler and Patty O'Green are puns on ordinary names, Canary Yellow is simply a shade, and Shy Violet and Tickled Pink turn everyday phrases into people. The helpers called sprites get one short bouncy word each, such as Romeo, Spark and Champ, and the grumpy side of the cast sounds as gray as it acts: Murky Dismal and Lurky.
