Orc Name Generator D&D

Dungeons & Dragons gives orcs a distinctive naming style that is easy to spot once you know it. The Player's Handbook and Volo's Guide to Monsters list short, blunt names built around hard consonants and a single grunted vowel: Dench, Feng, Gell, Henk, Holg, Krusk, Thokk for males, and Baggi, Emen, Kansif, Ovak, Shautha, Sutha, Vola for females. Volo's adds slightly longer names such as Kadgul, Marmog, Nakhamet, Damong and Latikaeh. Female orc names in 5e often end in -a or -ah, but the rule is loose, and names like Ownka, Engong and Weerak show that anything short and harsh works.

Orcs in D&D rarely use family surnames. Instead they earn epithets from deeds and body (Skullsplitter, Ninefingers, Onetusk, the Unbroken) or take a title tied to their gods: Eye of Gruumsh for the war-priests, Hand of Yurtrus for the plague-priests, Claw of Luthic for the cave-mothers, Blade of Ilneval for war-leaders. Tribe names attach with 'of' (Grug of the Broken Fang, Vagul of Many-Arrows). Famous Forgotten Realms orcs include King Obould Many-Arrows, Hartusk and Lorgru, all named exactly this way.

For a player character, pick a one-syllable base name and decide on the epithet later; the best orc nicknames come from what happens at the table. For NPCs, a name plus a god-title tells players immediately who they are dealing with. Half-orcs often carry either an orcish name or a human one, and mixing the two (Krusk Sunderland) is a quick way to show a character caught between cultures.
