About object show team names

Object show team names have their own culture, shaped by Battle for Dream Island, Inanimate Insanity, and the hundreds of fan-made shows in the Object Show Community. Canonical teams like the Squishy Cherries, Squashy Grapes, W.O.A.H. Bunch, Team No-Name, FreeSmart, Bleh, Death P.A.C.T., Free Food, and A Better Name Than That set the template: names are picked by the characters themselves, usually in a rush, often as a joke, and they say something about the contestants who chose them.

That gives a few recognizable patterns. Food teams (adjective plus food) come from the very first BFDI split. Acronym teams with dramatic periods parody serious team names. Anti-names and non-names (Team No-Name, The Losers!, iance) are jokes about the naming process itself. Punctuation-only names like The S! and Are You Okay? play with the fact that a name is whatever gets written on the scoreboard. Loose, lowercase, or misspelled names read as characters bickering rather than a committee deciding.

For your own show, choose a name that a specific character would plausibly blurt out and that fits on a team scoreboard graphic. Personality-based names also make eliminations funnier when a team is stuck with a name that no longer fits. Tips for choosing a name

  • Pick the name through a character. In object shows the funniest team names come from who chose them and why, so tie the choice to a personality (the panicky one, the bossy one).
  • Use one clear pattern per team: food, acronym with periods, anti-name, or an object plural. Two teams with the same pattern in the same season blur together.
  • Keep it short enough for a scoreboard graphic and a team-switch screen; three words is the practical limit.
  • Names with punctuation (The S!, Are We Okay?) work great on screen but check that they still read in plain text for your wiki and captions.
  • Let a name age badly on purpose: a team called Probably The Winners that keeps losing is a free running gag.
