Generate Nopon names in the style of the Xenoblade Chronicles games: short open-syllable names like Pupo and Kokoma, doubled names like Tikitiki, littlepon sibling sets such as Mipo and Mipa, and -pon titles like Chefpon and Mapmakerpon.

About Nopon names

Nopon are the small, round merchant folk of the Xenoblade Chronicles games, and their names are as compact as they are. Canon names are short and built from open syllables, a consonant followed by a vowel: Riki, Tora, Tatsu, Kino, Bana. Many repeat one syllable (Nene, Gadada, Bokoko, Manana) or double the whole name (Muimui, Niranira, Pelupelu, Pokapoka). Hard consonant clusters are rare, so a name that bounces when you say it is usually on the right track.

Titles do as much work as names. Nopon add -pon to a role or a family word, which gives Heropon Riki, Dadapon, Mamapon and Grampypon, and the same trick makes Chefpon or Mapmakerpon for a character of your own.

This list has 1,000 entries. About 30 are canon names and titles, kept as style anchors and named in the FAQ below. The rest are originals that follow the same sound rule, in these groups: two-syllable names, names with a repeated syllable, fully doubled names, littlepon sibling sets, chiefs and elders, merchants and caravan leaders, adventurers and salvagers, inventors, -pon titles, and a handful that sound like snacks or treasure.

How to choose Nopon names

  • Say it out loud. A Nopon name should bounce along as consonant, vowel, consonant, vowel, the way Pupo and Kokoma do; if you trip over a cluster of consonants, soften it.
  • Double something. Repeat one syllable (Nanapi, Motomo) or the whole name (Tikitiki, Lumilumi) for the most recognizably Nopon sound.
  • Build a title with -pon. Add it to a job or a family word, as in Chefpon, Mapmakerpon or Grannypon, and use it alone as a nickname or in front of a name for a grander introduction.
  • Name siblings as a set. Littlepon read well when they share a stem and change one vowel, like Mipo and Mipa or Tiko, Tika and Tiku.
  • Match length to standing. A longer name with a final n, such as Bogudan or Chief Wawagoran, suits an elder, while two quick syllables suit a scout or a salvager.

Frequently asked questions

How are Nopon names formed?

Canon Nopon names are short, usually two or three open syllables, and they often repeat a syllable or double the whole name. Riki, Tora, Nene, Gadada and Muimui show the range. The originals in this list, such as Pupo, Kokoma and Tikitiki, follow the same rule.

Which names in this list are canon?

A small share: Riki, Oka, Dunga, Kino, Nene, Tatsu, Tora, Tatazo, Soosoo, Bana, Muimui, Niranira, Riku, Manana, Pelupelu, Dabidabi, Kacha, Bokoko, Gadada, Pokapoka, Kofuko, Modamo, Umon, Pupunin and Minana, plus the titles Heropon, Dadapon, Mamapon, Grampypon, Masterpon and Littlepon. They are included as style anchors. The rest are originals in the same style, and with so many minor Nopon in the games an original may still match a shopkeeper by chance, so none of them is presented as canon.

What does -pon mean in a Nopon name?

Nopon add -pon to a word to make a title or nickname for one of their own: Heropon for a chosen hero, Dadapon and Mamapon for parents, Grampypon for a grandfather. The same pattern gives original titles such as Chefpon, Mapmakerpon and Stargazerpon, which work alone or in front of a name, as in Cookpon Sulobi.

Can I use these names for my own characters?

Yes. Use them for fan fiction, tabletop characters, pets or a save file. This is a fan-made list with no connection to Nintendo or Monolith Soft, and the canon names in it belong to their games.
