Moogle Name Generator

Moogle names follow a handful of traditions that have built up since the little white creatures first said "kupo" in Final Fantasy III. The oldest is the Mog family: Mog himself (FFVI, FFXIII, Crystal Chronicles), Mogki, Mogryo, Mogtaka, Mogrich and the rest of FFIX's Mognet postmoogles, and Moglin the chieftain of the Moogle Quests in FFXIV. The second is the Kup family, taken from the cry itself: Kupo, Kupek and Kupop are Mog's dancing troupe in FFVI, and FFXIV pushes it further with two-part reduplicated names such as Kupdi Koop, Kupta Kapa and Pukla Puki, which sound like a moogle introducing itself while bouncing.

Then there are the outliers that give moogle naming its charm. Ivalice moogles are named after desserts and sweets: Montblanc, Hurdy, Gurdy, Horne, Sorbet and Nono are brothers in Final Fantasy XII, and FFIX already had Mocha, Mojito and Mocchi. Stiltzkin the wandering moogle and Artemicion the Mognet boss prove that a moogle name does not need to start with Mog at all, as long as it is soft, slightly silly and fun to say.

A good moogle name, then, is short, round-sounding and a little sweet: Mog- or Kup- plus a playful tail, a dessert, or a reduplicated chant. Add a pompom or wing reference if you want, and finish with a kupo.
