Mesmers are Guild Wars 2's illusionists: duelists who fight with clones, phantasms, glamours and shattering butterflies, and who follow Lyssa, the twin goddess of beauty and illusion. The class has a distinctly courtly flavor in Tyria. Queen Jennah, Countess Anise and Lady Kasmeer Meade are all mesmers, and the Shining Blade's secret service is full of them, so a human mesmer name usually sounds like it belongs at a masquerade in Divinity's Reach: French- and English-flavored given names (Seraphine, Lucien, Ysabeau, Aurelian) with a polished surname.

Because any race can roll a mesmer, the name should follow your race's convention first and the class theme second. Sylvari take single Welsh, Cornish and Breton names such as Glaswen or Teilo; asura use short, fizzing names full of double consonants (Pexxi, Klekk); norn carry a patronymic (Ylva Ravensdottir); and charr pair a given name with an earned surname, which for a mesmer can lean on glass, shard, haze, veil and phase rather than blood and steel (Nexa Glassmane, Sekka Phaseclaw).

The list also includes role-flavored titles like The Violet Mask or Duke of Distortion, butterfly and purple-themed names that nod to the class visuals, and names tuned to the three elite specs: clockwork and hourglass for chronomancer, desert shimmer for mirage, and musical terms for the blade-playing virtuoso.
