Keleshite Name Generator
Desert-empire names for Pathfinder's Kelesh and Qadira
Generate Keleshite names for Pathfinder characters from the Padishah Empire of Kelesh and its satrapy Qadira: Persian, Arabic and Turkic given names like Daryush, Zuleikha and Arslan, full names such as Shirin Azadeh and Daryush ibn Faramarz, bynames like Kasim the Unhorsed, and titled names for emirs, viziers, dervishes and caravan masters.
About Keleshite names
Keleshites are the people of the Padishah Empire of Kelesh, the vast realm east of Pathfinder's Inner Sea, and of Qadira, its westernmost satrapy, ruled from the port of Katheer. Their names in this list draw on real Persian, Arabic and Turkic given names such as Daryush, Zuleikha and Arslan. A name can stand alone, take a father's name with ibn (son of) or bint (daughter of), carry a family name such as Bazargan or Kartal, or pick up a byname from a place, a trade or a deed: Jalil of Katheer, Jabir the Coppersmith, Kasim the Unhorsed.
Rank and calling go in front. The list keeps to the setting's own terms, with emirs and emiras, satraps, viziers and the padishah's envoys at court. Around them stand caravan masters and merchant princes, horse lords and desert clans, cavalry officers, genie binders and court wizards, and priests and dervishes of Sarenrae, the Dawnflower.
Nearly all of it is new: real-world given and family names, not published characters. Kyra is the name of Pathfinder's iconic cleric, and some bynames use published places such as Katheer, Sedeq, Gurat, the Zho Mountains and the Meraz Desert; other places are made up. The satraps here are invented governors, not Qadira's published satrap, Xerbystes II. This fan-made list has no affiliation with Paizo.
How to choose Keleshite names
- Choose the shape first. A single given name such as Farangis or Tolga suits a commoner or a traveler; a father's name (Navid ibn Ghassan) or a family name (Samira Jahangiri) suits someone with a household behind them.
- Use ibn for a son and bint for a daughter, followed by the father's given name, as in Kaan ibn Bahram or Layla bint Jamshid. Siblings share the second half, which is a quick way to build a family.
- Give a nomad or a caravan guard a byname the table can picture: Zuleikha Sandwalker, Mehran Windchaser, Batu Breaks-the-Colt. A place byname such as Nadir of Sedeq tells the party where the character comes from.
- Put the title in front and keep to the setting's ranks: Emir or Emira for nobles, Vizier for ministers, Satrap for a provincial governor. The satraps in this list are invented, so ask your GM before you seat one in a published province.
- For a follower of Sarenrae, pair the name with a calling, as in Dawn Priestess Khorshid or Dawnflower Dervish Faris, then decide whether the character heals, preaches or fights with a scimitar.
Frequently asked questions
What do Keleshite names sound like?
Like Persian, Arabic and Turkic names side by side, which is how this list builds them. Given names such as Faramarz, Roshanak, Ghassan, Thuraya, Korkut and Yildiz appear alone or in full names such as Mazyar ibn Hatim, Reem Shahbazi and Demir Khosravi.
Are these names from the Pathfinder books?
Almost none. The given names and family names are real-world Persian, Arabic and Turkic names, and the people, houses and clans built from them are not in the books. The canon share is Kyra, the name of the iconic cleric, and published places such as Katheer, Sedeq, Gurat, Qadira and Kelesh in bynames like Jalil of Katheer. The page is fan-made and is not affiliated with Paizo.
How do ibn and bint work in a Keleshite name?
Ibn means son of and bint means daughter of, and each is followed by the father's given name. Arash ibn Mansur is Arash, son of Mansur, and Salma bint Bahman is Salma, daughter of Bahman. The list keeps to one father's name and does not build longer chains of ancestors.
Can I use these names in both editions of Pathfinder?
Yes. Keleshite is a human ethnicity in both editions, and Qadira is the part of the empire that most Inner Sea campaigns meet. The names also suit characters from deeper in the empire, such as Dara of Kelesh or Padishah's Envoy Nahid.
