About Honkai Star Rail names

Honkai: Star Rail names change register every time the Astral Express docks somewhere new, and that is the key to making an original character sound like they belong. Herta Space Station and the IPC use international science-fiction names (Asta, Arlan, Veritas Ratio, Aventurine, Topaz). Jarilo-VI's Belobog is Russian-flavored: Bronya Rand, Gepard and Serval Landau, Sampo Koski, Natasha, Cocolia. The Xianzhou Luofu uses two-syllable Chinese given names, usually without a surname: Jing Yuan, Fu Xuan, Yanqing, Tingyun, Jingliu, Feixiao, Lingsha. Penacony leans into 1920s American showbiz and dream-hotel glamour with Robin, Sunday, Gallagher, Boothill, Sparkle and Misha, while Amphoreus draws on ancient Greek names and epithets: Aglaea, Mydei, Castorice, Anaxagoras, Phainon, Cerydra, Hysilens.

Above the worlds sit the Aeons, named for the Paths they embody: Akivili the Trailblaze, Nanook the Destruction, Qlipoth the Preservation, Yaoshi the Abundance, Lan the Hunt, Nous the Erudition, Xipe the Harmony, Aha the Elation, IX the Nihility. Stellaron Hunters and Galaxy Rangers go by codenames such as Kafka, Silver Wolf, Blade, Firefly and Sam.

How to choose Honkai Star Rail names

  • Pick the world first, then the name: a Xianzhou OC needs a two-character Chinese given name like Ruoshui or Tingxuan, a Belobog native needs a Slavic name like Darya Antonova, and an Amphoreus Chrysos Heir sounds right with a Greek name such as Kallirhoe or Leandros.
  • Xianzhou natives usually go by a given name alone; only Vidyadhara elders and a few officials use a surname, so save forms like Ye Qinghe or Luo Wanxu for older or formal characters.
  • For a Stellaron Hunter, Masked Fool or Galaxy Ranger OC, choose a single evocative codename (Halcyon, Nocturne, Kestrel) and keep the real name secret, which is how Kafka, Silver Wolf and Sparkle work.
  • Penacony names should feel like a 1920s marquee: think Dolores Caine or Bartholomew Finch rather than modern short names, and use Family titles (Oak, Alfalfa, Iris) for status.
  • Check spellings before posting builds or fan art; the most commonly botched canon names are Aventurine, Raiden Bosenmori Mei, Mydeimos, Castorice and Hysilens.

Where do Honkai Star Rail character names come from?

Each world is modeled on a real culture or era: Belobog on Russia and Eastern Europe, the Xianzhou Luofu on classical China, Penacony on 1920s America, and Amphoreus on ancient Greece. Aeon names are mostly coined words, and Stellaron Hunters use literary codenames like Kafka and Blade.

Does this list include the newest Honkai Star Rail characters?

It includes playable characters through the Amphoreus arc and the Fate/stay night collaboration, including Aglaea, Mydei, Castorice, Anaxa, Hyacine, Cipher, Phainon, Cerydra, Hysilens, Evernight, Saber and Archer. New banners arrive every six weeks, so the very latest release may not appear yet.

Why does the Trailblazer have two names?

Stelle is the female Trailblazer and Caelus the male one; players pick one at the start of the game. In-universe the character is simply the Trailblazer, and the names you see in fan content depend on which version the creator plays.

Can I use these names for my own HSR OC?

Canon names belong to HoYoverse's setting, so use them only for the canon characters. The original names in this list are free to use for a Trailblazer OC, fan fiction, roleplay or character card; just match the name's style to the world your character comes from.
