Genshin Impact gives each of its seven nations a real-world linguistic template, and the fastest way to make an original character feel like they belong in Teyvat is to name them from the right template. Mondstadt uses German and old European names (Diluc Ragnvindr, Jean Gunnhildr, Albedo). Liyue uses Chinese given names and surnames (Zhongli, Ningguang, Hu Tao). Inazuma follows Japanese family-name-first order (Kamisato Ayaka, Kujou Sara). Sumeru mixes Persian, Arabic and Indian names (Nahida, Cyno, Tighnari, Dehya). Fontaine is French (Neuvillette, Furina, Lyney, Clorinde). Natlan draws on Nahuatl, Polynesian and African names (Xilonen, Mualani, Kinich), and Snezhnaya on Russian names and Commedia dell'arte titles for the Harbingers.

Beyond the region template, canon characters tend to have names that are pronounceable, two to four syllables, and either a single given name or a name plus surname. Sumeru and Natlan characters often go by a single name, while Mondstadt and Fontaine nobles carry family names. Vision holders frequently have names that nod to their element or story: Yoimiya (evening bloom) for the pyrotechnician, Ororon (owl) for the Natlan night character. A subtle nod like this makes an OC feel designed rather than random.
