Exalted Name Generator

Exalted names are unusual among tabletop RPGs because the setting deliberately mixes several naming traditions. The most recognizable style is the poetic epithet used by many Solar Exalted and by people from the Threshold: two or three evocative words that read like a line from a wuxia film or a piece of Bronze Age poetry. Signature characters like Harmonious Jade, Swan Dragonfly, and Perfect Soul set the tone, and names such as Ravenous Silence or Falling Star Sorrow follow the same rule of pairing an adjective or image with a noun.

Dragon-Blooded of the Realm use a completely different convention. Their names lead with the Great House and follow with a personal name, so Ledaal Kes belongs to House Ledaal and Cathak Cainan to House Cathak. The eleven houses (Cathak, Cynis, Iselsi, Ledaal, Mnemon, Nellens, Peleps, Ragara, Sesus, Tepet, and V'neef) all appear here, along with Lookshy's gentes like Karal and Amilar. Lunars favor totem-animal names such as Silver Python or Ma-Ha-Suchi, while Sidereals and Abyssals often carry titles instead of names, from Chejop Kejak to the Maiden of the Mirthless Smile.

A good Exalted name tells you something about the character's Exaltation, homeland, or legend before dice hit the table. Mononyms like Dace or Raksi work for hard-bitten wanderers, while long titular names suit Deathlords and Sidereal elders whose true names have long since been lost.
