Disney Frozen Name Generator
Arendelle names for royals, reindeer and snowmen
Browse 500 Frozen names, including characters and places from Frozen and Frozen 2 such as Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven. The rest are new names in the Arendelle style: Scandinavian royals and townsfolk like Princess Tiril of Solfjell and Marit Bakken, ice harvesters, forest folk, rock trolls, reindeer and cuddly snowmen like Carrotnose.
About Disney Frozen names
Frozen (2013) and Frozen 2 (2019) take place in Arendelle, a fictional kingdom with a Norwegian look, and the story was loosely inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale The Snow Queen. The names follow the setting. Elsa, Anna, Sven, Olaf and Hans are everyday Scandinavian names, Kristoff is a short form of Kristoffer, and the castle servants Kai and Gerda share theirs with the two children in Andersen's tale. Even the horse Sitron has a Norwegian name: it is the word for lemon.
Other corners of the films have their own sound. The rock trolls have short, earthy names (Pabbie, Bulda, Cliff), the giant snow guard is ironically called Marshmallow, and the Nokk comes from the water spirit of Nordic folklore. Frozen 2 adds the Northuldra, a forest people inspired by the Sámi of northern Scandinavia, with names such as Yelana, Honeymaren and Ryder.
Forty-five entries on this list are characters and places from the films, and the first of the questions further down names them all. Everything else was written for this page and only follows the style: royals and nobles of storybook kingdoms, townsfolk with Norwegian farm surnames and patronymics, ice harvesters with bynames, forest folk (including some traditional Sámi given names), snowmen, reindeer, rock trolls, spirits, places, and horses named after Norwegian treats.
How to choose Disney Frozen names
- For a royal character, keep the pattern of a title, a simple Scandinavian given name and a realm: Princess Embla of Stjernevik reads like a name on a castle guest list.
- Townsfolk sound right with a farm surname, as in Marit Bakken or Leif Haugen, or a patronymic ending in -sen or -datter, as in Astrid Olavsdatter.
- Snowmen and reindeer work best with a plain human name, the way Olaf and Sven do. Try Alf, Pelle, Stig or Greta before reaching for a snow pun.
- For a troll, start from a rock or mineral and soften it: Flint, Mica, Pebbla, Granny Granite.
- Most names here are spelled with plain letters so they are easy to type. A few, like Blåfjell and Sølvfossen, keep their Norwegian å and ø, and you can swap in a and o if your keyboard or game will not accept them.
Frequently asked questions
Which names here are actual Frozen characters?
Forty-five entries come from the two films and the short Frozen Fever. The characters are Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, Olaf, Sven and Hans, four of them also under fuller names (Queen Elsa of Arendelle, Princess Anna of Arendelle, Kristoff Bjorgman and Prince Hans of the Southern Isles), plus The Snow Queen, The Duke of Weselton, King Agnarr, Queen Iduna, King Runeard, Grand Pabbie, Bulda, Cliff, Oaken, Marshmallow, Kai, Gerda, Sitron, The Snowgies, Lieutenant Mattias, Yelana, Honeymaren, Ryder, Halima, Bruni, Gale, The Nokk and The Earth Giants. The places and peoples are Arendelle, Arendelle Castle, The North Mountain, The Ice Palace, The Enchanted Forest, Ahtohallan, The Southern Isles, Weselton, The Valley of the Living Rock, Wandering Oaken's Trading Post and Sauna, The Dark Sea and The Northuldra. It is not a complete cast list. The other names were written for this page in the same styles and are not offered as film characters.
What are the main character names in the movie Frozen?
The leads are the sisters Elsa and Anna, the ice harvester Kristoff, his reindeer Sven and the snowman Olaf, with Prince Hans of the Southern Isles and the Duke of Weselton among the visitors. Frozen 2 adds Lieutenant Mattias and the Northuldra characters Yelana, Honeymaren and Ryder, plus the spirits Bruni, Gale, the Nokk and the Earth Giants.
Are the Arendelle-style names real Scandinavian names?
Mostly, yes. The townsfolk and royals, such as Sigrid Myhre, Leif Haugen or Queen Solveig of Vinterholm, use real Norwegian given names and surnames, while the kingdoms and villages are put together from Norwegian words, and a few share a name with a real place. Some forest folk carry traditional Sámi given names like Máret and Ánte, and the horse names Kanel, Honning and Vaffel are the Norwegian words for cinnamon, honey and waffle.
Can I use these for a Frozen fan character, a party or a story?
Yes, that is what the new names are for: fan characters, birthday party name tags, snowman naming contests and bedtime stories. The film characters belong to Disney, so keep those to fan use. This page is a fan resource and is not official or connected to the studio.
