Darkners are named after the real objects they come from in the Light World, usually as a pun or squashed spelling: Lancer (spade lance), Rouxls Kaard (rules card), Seam (a stitched plush), Tasque Manager (task manager), Swatch (a color swatch), Spamton (spam). Each chapter's Dark World draws on the room it formed in, so Chapter 1 is cards and board games, Chapter 2 is computers and the internet, Chapter 3 is television.

Keep it very short and gender-neutral, like Kris, Chara and Frisk. One-syllable names such as Wren, Tam, Sol, Rue or Bex fit the pattern. The game treats human names as plain and unremarkable, and the player's own name is famously rejected in the opening vessel creation.

Partly. Hometown reuses most of the Undertale monster cast (Toriel, Sans, Undyne, Alphys, Asgore) with the same names, and puns and font-named skeletons still work. Darkner names, though, are unique to Deltarune because they depend on the object-to-monster rule, so an Undertale-style name like Vegetoid would feel out of place in a Dark World.

Yes. The original names here are free to use for OCs, fan comics, AUs and roleplay. Canon character names belong to Toby Fox and Deltarune, so use those for the existing cast and not as titles for commercial projects.
