Death Goddess Name Generator

Almost every mythology puts a woman at the door of the dead. Hel rules half the Norse dead in Niflheim; Ereshkigal is queen of the Sumerian Great Below; Mictecacihuatl keeps the bones in Mictlan; Izanami rots in Yomi; Persephone and Hecate share the Greek underworld; Morana is drowned in effigy each spring across Slavic Europe; the Morrigan, Badb and Macha circle Irish battlefields as crows. Others are gentler or stranger: Meng Po serves the soup of forgetting, Vanth carries a torch for Etruscan souls, Giltine's tongue drips poison, and Santa Muerte and Maman Brigitte still receive offerings today. Their names sound right because they come from living languages and carry a job: Ereshkigal means lady of the great earth, Mictecacihuatl means woman of the land of the dead.

The original names here follow those patterns. Some are coined with soft, dark phonology (Vessarine, Nocturra, Selmora); some are Latin or Greek abstractions such as Lacrima, Achlysia and Umbra Regina; some are English kennings and titles (Lady of the Last Door, The Quiet Midwife, Counter of Breaths) because real death goddesses are often called by a title rather than a name.
