Class Name Generator

A class is the broad role a character fills for their whole career (Fighter, Wizard). A subclass or specialization narrows it at a later level and usually keeps the parent name visible (Battle Master Fighter, Bladesinger Wizard). A job, the term used in Final Fantasy and other JRPGs, is a class the character can swap between, so job names tend to be short nouns like Dragoon, Machinist or Sage.

Yes. Generic archetypes and historical terms such as Paladin, Hoplite, Samurai and Necromancer belong to no one. A handful of specific subclass names from published systems appear here for reference; if you are selling a product, rename anything that is clearly tied to a particular rulebook and use the many originals instead.

Swap the magic vocabulary for technology while keeping the role clear. Caster becomes Technomancer, Psion or Signal Mage; healer becomes Nanomedic or Cyberdoc; tank becomes Exo Trooper or Ironclad; rogue becomes Netrunner, Infiltrator or Fixer. Real military and trade terms (Sapper, Rigger, Drone Jockey) ground the setting the same way Hussar and Sapper do for historical fantasy.

Most tabletop systems ship with 8 to 13 core classes, each with 3 to 8 subclasses; MMOs usually launch with 6 to 10 and add more later. For a LitRPG novel, three to five named classes on the main cast is plenty; readers remember the protagonist's class and one or two contrasting ones, so spend your best names there.
