Cabaret Name Generator

Cabaret names carry more than a century of nightlife history. The form was born in 1880s Montmartre, where artists' cafés took names like Le Chat Noir and Le Mirliton, and it spread to Berlin, where Weimar-era Kabaretts such as the Kabarett der Komiker and Die Weiße Maus mixed satire, song and scandal. Later came the Parisian spectacle houses, the Soho supper clubs, and the neo-burlesque revival that still borrows the same vocabulary of velvet, feathers, absinthe and sin.

Because of that lineage, the strongest names tend to fall into a few recognisable shapes. French venue names often pair an article with an animal, colour or object (Le Papillon Noir, La Lune Rousse, Le Coq Doré) or take the form "Cabaret X" and "Chez Someone". German names use "Kabarett" plus a single vivid compound noun such as Nachtfalter or Zuckerpuppe. English-language clubs favour "The" plus a plush, slightly decadent image: the Velvet Curtain, the Gilded Birdcage, the Tarnished Halo. Revues and troupes lean on alliteration, a host's name, or a wink at the audience (Sequins & Sin, the Bad Habit Revue).

Whatever the style, a good cabaret name should look right in neon and in a programme's gilt lettering, promise a little mischief without tipping into vulgarity, and be easy for a compère to announce.
