A performer's name is her first costume: it should promise glamour, comedy, or danger before she ever steps into the spotlight.

The most common structures are easy to spot. Alliterative pairs (Ruby Rouge, Kitty Kaboom) roll off an emcee's tongue. Honorifics like Miss, Madame, Lady, or the mock-aristocratic "Von" add campy grandeur, and the "Miss" format doubles as a pun machine: Miss Behave, Miss Conduct, Miss Demeanor. Vintage glamour vocabulary (velvet, sequin, tassel, boudoir), cocktail and dessert words (Martini, Peaches, Cherry), and femme fatale references (Vixen, Fatale, Nightshade) all show up constantly.

A great burlesque name should sound good shouted over applause, be easy to spell on a poster, and be unique enough that nobody else in your city already performs under it. Many performers pick something that reflects their act, whether that is classic feather-fan glamour, comedic nerdlesque, or dark gothic tease.
