Black Desert Online asks for two names at character creation: a family name that is shared by every character on your account and shown over your head, and a character name for the individual. Both must be unique on the server, one word, and no longer than 16 characters, which is why good BDO names tend to be short, pronounceable and a little unusual. The common ones (Aria, Luna, Shadow) were taken in 2016, so the trick is to sound natural while being one step off the obvious.

The game's world gives you plenty of registers to borrow from. Balenos, Serendia and Calpheon are medieval-European, with names like Jordine Ducas or Crucio Domongatt; Mediah and Valencia lean Persian and Arabic (Altinova, Shakatu, Ibellab); Kamasylvia is elven with soft liquid names such as Ganelle and Herawen; O'dyllita's Ahib favor harsh consonants and z and x sounds; Drieghan is rugged and mountain-born; and the Land of the Morning Light uses Korean names for its Woosa, Maegu and Dosa characters. Matching your family name to your main's origin region makes the whole account feel cohesive.

The list below mixes character names from each of those regions with family-name style surnames (Ravenmoor, Ashvale, Thornquist) that read well above a head on the Velia docks.
