Baptist Church Name Generator

Baptist churches are congregational, so there is no bishop handing down a name; each church chooses its own, and a few patterns dominate. The oldest is the ordinal: First Baptist Church of a town, then Second and Third as the congregation split or planted. Historically Black Baptist churches lean on biblical geography and memory: Mount Zion, Ebenezer, Shiloh, Antioch, Macedonia, Pilgrim Rest, Traveler's Rest and Sweet Home, often with Missionary Baptist in the name and sometimes Greater or New in front to mark a relocation or a new body that kept the old name.

Rural and Southern Baptist churches are frequently named for the ground they stand on: Pleasant Grove, Sandy Creek, Piney Grove, Rocky Mount, Holly Springs, or the street or road out front. Virtue and gospel words (Grace, Faith, Calvary, Victory, Bible, Gospel Light) were favored by mid-century evangelical and Independent Baptist churches, while Primitive, Free Will, Reformed and Landmark Baptists put their tradition right in the name.

Newer Baptist plants often drop the denominational label from the sign but keep it in the bylaws, choosing names like Crosspoint, Journey, Compass or Redemption. Whatever style you choose, make sure it is not already used by a church within driving distance, and say it aloud with your town's name attached to check that it still sounds natural.
