Avariel Name Generator

Avariel are the winged elves of the Forgotten Realms, the Aril'Tel'Quessir, a nearly extinct people who keep to mountain eyries like the Aerie of the Snow Eagles in the Star Mounts. Their names follow ordinary Elvish phonology: long open vowels, the ae and ei diphthongs, liquid l, r and n, and soft endings such as -iel, -ith, -yn, -ael and -andre. What sets them apart is the imagery. Where a moon elf family name might translate as Moonwhisper or Silverfrond, an avariel house is Nightwind, Skyfeather or Cloudweaver, and even personal names lean toward sounds that feel light and airborne.

This generator gives you three kinds of names. Full names pair an Elvish given name with a Common-translated surname built from wind, sky, storm, feather, pinion, eyrie and peak imagery, in the same way D&D renders Amastacia as Starflower. A second group uses Elvish-language surnames (Vaelthari, Ithilquen, Aelorathi) for a more formal or ancient feel. The rest are stand-alone given names and eyrie epithets such as "of the Snow Eagles" or "the Farflown", which suit a people small enough that everyone knows which roost you came from.

Taegan Nightwind, the avariel bladesinger from The Year of Rogue Dragons, is included as a canon reference point; the remaining names are original.
