Arachne Name Generator

Arachne began as one woman: a Lydian weaver from Hypaepa who beat Athena at the loom and was turned into a spider for her pride. Modern fantasy borrowed her name for a whole species of spider-centaurs, so the best arachne names pull from two directions at once. The first is ancient Greek. Names like Ianthe, Melantho, Theonoe, Xanthippe and Hypsipyle sound right because they share Arachne's own phonology: open vowels, -e and -a endings, and the hard k, th and x sounds of Attic and Ionian Greek. Pairing them with a weaver's epithet (Duskspinner, Silkmother, Hollowloom) or a Lydian place-surname (Kolophonia, Tmolitis, Sardiane) ties the character straight back to the myth.

The second direction is the monster. Settings that treat arachne as a race usually give them sibilant, many-syllabled names with doubled consonants and soft endings: Velisyrra, Nyctessa, Tessilith, Ssavrenne. Those read as inhuman without tipping into drow territory, and they work as standalone names or with a descriptive byname. A smaller set of titles (Lady of the Hanging Loom, Keeper of the Thousandfold Web) suits an arachne who has lived long enough to be known only by what she does.

Male arachne are rare in lore but do appear, so the list also includes Greek masculine names with spider epithets and a few clipped coinages like Korrath and Drakhos.
