Wide Receiver Name Generator

Wide receiver names have a sound of their own. Scan any NFL roster and the receiver room is where you find the most inventive first names in the league: apostrophes and capital letters in the middle (Ja'Marr, CeeDee, Amon-Ra), initials used as names (D.J., A.J., K.J.), and a heavy tilt toward the Southern and Black American naming traditions that produce Tyreek, Davante, Jaylen and Stefon. Receivers also get nicknames more than any other position because speed invites them: Speedy, Flash, Jet, Tank, Bubba and Boogie have all belonged to real wideouts.

The rest of the room rounds out the picture. Polynesian receivers from Hawaii, Utah and California (Puka-style names built from Samoan, Tongan and Hawaiian roots), Nigerian-American stars with Igbo and Yoruba surnames, Hispanic receivers from Texas and Florida, and the clean-cut slot guys with Midwestern surnames who catch everything over the middle.
