College Football Name Generator

College football names carry a sense of place. A roster from the Southeast reads differently from one in the upper Midwest: Louisiana produces Boudreaux, Fontenot and Guillory, Texas and Oklahoma give you Colt, Stetson and Gunner, the Rust Belt fills out the offensive line with Kowalczyk, Szymanski and Rademacher, and the Polynesian pipeline to the Pac-12 and Mountain West brings Taufa, Fifita and Moala. Good fictional players sound like they were recruited from somewhere specific, which is why this list is grouped by region and background rather than generated at random.

The team names follow the Team Builder formula used in CFB 25 and older NCAA games: a regional or geographic modifier, an institution type (State, Tech, A&M, College, University, Polytechnic) and a mascot that fits the landscape. Cedar Ridge State Timberwolves, Bayou Tech Swamp Kings and Great Basin University Pronghorns all sound like real FBS or FCS programs without copying any existing school. A short run of head coaches rounds it out, in the Buck Stallings and Billy Joe Broussard tradition.
