Generate web series names that work as a YouTube title, a hashtag and a pitch: short comedy titles about roommates and retail jobs, sci-fi and horror names for low-budget genre shows, slice-of-life and rom-com titles, and workplace mockumentary names for your next indie season.

About web series names

A web series title does more work than a TV title. It has to read in a YouTube thumbnail at phone size, survive as a hashtag, and tell a stranger in two seconds what kind of show they are about to watch. Breakout web series tend to have short, concrete names built from everyday phrases: a job (Unpaid Interns), a living situation (Split Rent), a piece of tech everyone recognises (Low Battery, Left on Read), or the one place the whole show happens (Apartment 4B, Corner Booth). Two or three words is the sweet spot.

Genre shows can afford to be moodier. Sci-fi and horror web series do well with a single evocative image or transmission-style phrase (Signal Lost, The Lighthouse Tapes, Room 212), while comedies win with a phrase the audience already says out loud, twisted slightly (Per My Last Email, Sunday Scaries, Define the Relationship). Sincere slice-of-life shows usually want the plainest option, because plainness reads as honest.

The names here are grouped loosely by premise: roommates and rent, retail and service jobs, office and startup life, school, dating, gaming and tabletop, sci-fi, horror, crime, music and family. Pull the one closest to your logline, then check it is free on YouTube, Instagram and as a domain before you shoot the pilot.

How to choose web series names

  • Search the exact title on YouTube before committing; if a channel with 2 million subscribers already uses it, your episodes will never rank above theirs.
  • Say the title in a sentence a viewer would actually use ("have you seen Split Rent?"); if it sounds awkward or needs explaining, pick a shorter one.
  • Keep the name off the specific platform or device if you can; a title like Swipe Left dates itself as soon as the app changes, while Mixed Signals will still make sense in five years.
  • Make sure the title still fits if the show grows; Season 1 of Apartment 4B can move apartments, but a title built on a single gag cannot.
  • Grab the handle on every platform the same week you decide, and check that the name is not trademarked by a TV show or podcast in your country.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a web series title be?

One to three words, ideally under 20 characters. YouTube shows about 60 characters of a video title, and you still need room for the episode name, so a short series title like Open Plan or Cold Open leaves space for "Ep. 3: The Offsite" beside it.

Should I put the genre in the name?

Not literally. Titles like The Lighthouse Tapes or Signal Lost tell the viewer it is horror or sci-fi without the word in the name, which reads better than "Horror Web Series". Save the genre label for the description and tags, where it helps search.

Can I use a name that is also an existing film or TV show?

Legally you often can, since titles alone are rarely protected, but practically it is a bad idea: you will lose every search to the bigger title and viewers will assume you are a fan channel. Search the title on YouTube, IMDb and a trademark database before you pick it.

What makes a web series name feel like a web series rather than a TV show?

Intimacy and specificity. Network titles tend to be broad (a surname, a city), while successful web series lean on a tiny, recognisable slice of life: one apartment, one shift, one group chat. Names like Unpaid Interns or Laundry Day promise the small, personal scale that plays well on a phone.
