Stacked Name Logo Generator

A stacked logo is a wordmark where the name is broken across two or three lines and set inside a square, circle, or badge. It is the default lockup for app icons, hang tags, and patches, and it only works when the words cooperate. The best stacked names use two words of similar length (Salt & Stone, North Star, Bold Type), or one long word over one short word with a strong ampersand or rule between them. Names fail when one word is twice as long as the other, forcing the designer to shrink or letterspace a line.

Letterforms matter almost as much as length. Words built from mostly straight and round capitals (IRON, OAK, BOLT, NOVA) hold up at tiny sizes; words full of descenders and thin strokes (jyg, if) get muddy. Ampersand pairings became the dominant style for craft, coffee, and apparel brands precisely because '&' is a beautiful glyph to center on its own line, and because a pairing of two concrete nouns (Wax & Wick, Cut & Sew) is easy to picture and easy to trademark.

Any of them can be set as a two-line stack; the three-word names stack as three lines or as a two-line stack with a small connector.
