About Solo Leveling names

Solo Leveling uses three very different naming registers, and getting the right one is what makes a fan character sound like it belongs in Chugong's world. Human hunters carry ordinary Korean names written family name first with a hyphenated given name: Sung Jin-Woo, Cha Hae-In, Choi Jong-In, Baek Yoon-Ho, Woo Jin-Chul. Nothing about the name signals power; the rank letter, the guild and a title like Korea's Strongest Hunter or the Sword Saint do that work. Foreign S-ranks follow their own conventions, from Thomas Andre and Christopher Reed to Goto Ryuji and Liu Zhigang.

Shadows and Monarchs sound nothing like people. Jin-Woo names his soldiers with short, heavy words that feel older than any language: Igris, Beru, Iron, Tank, Tusk, Kaisel, Greed, Bellion. The Monarchs and Rulers go further into invented phonology with Antares, Ashborn, Baran, Legia, Querehsha, Rakan and Sillad, usually paired with a domain such as Monarch of White Flames or Monarch of Plagues.

This generator covers every layer: canon hunters, shadows and Monarchs, original Korean hunter names in the manhwa's romanization, new shadow soldier names with that same blunt weight, hunter titles, and guild names in the style of Ahjin, White Tiger and Fiend. Use it for OCs, guild rosters, fan fiction and Solo Leveling-inspired tabletop or LitRPG settings.

How to choose Solo Leveling names

  • For a Korean hunter OC, write the family name first and hyphenate a two-syllable given name (Han Ju-Won, Seo Tae-Wan); the manhwa's official English release keeps that format, so it reads as authentic.
  • Name shadows with one short, hard word and no surname. Igris, Beru and Tusk are all one or two syllables; a shadow called something long and elegant breaks the army's feel.
  • Give an S-rank a nickname before a name. The story introduces Choi Jong-In as the Ultimate Mage and Cha Hae-In as the Dancer long before it uses their full names, so a title like Busan's Shadow does half the characterization.
  • Guild names in this world are plain nouns or single ideas (Hunters, Knights, Fiend, Reapers, Scavenger); add the word Guild and keep the rest short, then attach a city or country for flavor.
  • If you want a Monarch or Ruler, pair an invented name with a domain: Tarnak, Monarch of Iron Body. The domain tells the reader what kind of threat it is, so the name can stay abstract.

Frequently asked questions

Which canon Solo Leveling characters are in this generator?

It includes Sung Jin-Woo and his family, Cha Hae-In, Yoo Jin-Ho, Go Gun-Hee, Woo Jin-Chul, Choi Jong-In, Baek Yoon-Ho, Lim Tae-Gyu, Ma Dong-Wook, Hwang Dong-Soo, Kang Tae-Shik, Thomas Andre, Christopher Reed, Liu Zhigang, Goto Ryuji, the shadows Igris, Beru, Iron, Tank, Tusk, Kaisel, Greed and Bellion, the Monarchs Antares, Ashborn, Baran, Legia, Querehsha, Rakan, Sillad, Tarnak and Yogumunt, the dragon Kamish, and guilds such as Ahjin, Hunters, White Tiger, Knights, Fiend and Scavenger.

How do I name a Solo Leveling OC so it fits the series?

Pick the hunter's nationality first. A Korean hunter gets a family name (Kim, Lee, Park, Choi, Jung, Kang, Han, Seo) plus a hyphenated given name, a Japanese hunter gets surname-first Japanese naming like Goto Ryuji, and Western hunters get ordinary full names like Thomas Andre. Then decide rank, weapon and a nickname; in Solo Leveling the title carries the drama, not the name.

What makes a good shadow soldier name?

Jin-Woo's shadows are named in a single word, usually one or two syllables with hard consonants: Igris, Beru, Iron, Tank, Tusk. Some names describe the soldier (Iron, Tank, Greed) and others are simply sounds that feel ancient (Igris, Kaisel, Bellion). Avoid surnames, avoid soft flowing syllables, and keep it short enough to shout as a command.

Can I use these names in fan fiction, roleplay or a LitRPG story?

Yes. Canon names belong to their characters and to the series, but the original hunter names, shadow names, titles and guild names are free to use for OCs, Discord roleplay, fan fiction and your own hunter or gate-themed LitRPG settings.
