Ski Resort Name Generator

Real ski resorts are named in a handful of predictable ways, and the list follows them. North American ski areas usually take a landform plus a descriptor: a peak, basin, bowl, ridge, pass, hollow or summit combined with weather, minerals, wildlife or trees (Silverthorn Peak, Wolverine Bowl, Ptarmigan Peak, Tamarack Heights). Mining-era names (Prospector Peak, Goldrush Gulch) and skier slang (Powderline, First Chair, Cold Smoke Summit, Bluebird Basin) give a resort the feel of a specific mountain culture rather than a generic brand.

European stations sound different because they grow out of villages and valleys. French resorts use Val, Les, Mont, Col and Aiguille (Val d'Aurenne, Les Arolles, Col des Aigles); German, Austrian and Swiss-German ones compound Alm, Berg, Kogel, Horn and Spitze (Hochalm, Steinbock Arena, Firnspitze); Italian and Romansh names use Cima, Passo, Alpe and Piz (Cima Bianca, Piz Clar); Spanish and Andean resorts use Cerro, Valle and Nevado. Norway, Sweden and Finland favour Fjell, Snø, Tunturi and Lumi compounds, while Japanese resorts attach Kogen (highland) or Snow Park to a mountain name.

For a fictional resort, decide which country it belongs to first, then borrow that country's pattern; a Swiss-sounding name on a Colorado mountain reads as a marketing gimmick, which can itself be a useful detail.
