Pledge Name Generator

A pledge name is the nickname a fraternity or sorority gives each new member during the pledge period, and the good ones stick for life. Almost every pledge name comes from one of four sources: something the pledge did (Crash, Spills, Wrong Way, Fire Drill), how they look (Stretch, Freckles, Mop Top, Big Country), what they always eat or wear (Biscuit, Ramen, Crocs, Flannel), or an ironic title that pokes at their personality (Professor, Senator, Captain Obvious, Sir Naps-a-Lot). The best names are two or three syllables, easy to yell across a house, and carry a story that brothers or sisters will retell at every reunion.

Styles vary by organization. Fraternity pledge names lean toward roast humor and food (Meatball, Gravy, Nugget, Tater Tot). Panhellenic sororities that use them tend toward sweeter or quirkier picks (Sprinkles, Sunshine, Pixie, Ladybug). In NPHC and other culturally based organizations the individual line name is a more formal honor, announced at the probate, and sounds like a title rather than a joke: Silent Storm, Unbreakable, Golden Child, Sweet Serenity.
