Niffler Name Generator

A niffler is the Wizarding World's furry burglar: a soft black mole-like beast with a duck's bill and a pouch that can hold far more than it should, and an uncontrollable urge to grab anything that glitters. Newt Scamander's own niffler causes the bank heist in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and the franchise later gives us his baby nifflers and Teddy, the one name that is properly canon. Hogwarts Legacy lets you rescue and name nifflers in the Room of Requirement, which is why most people arrive here looking for a name for a specific little thief.

The names that suit a niffler come from a few obvious seams. Coins and currencies (Doubloon, Farthing, Galleon, Knut, Sixpence) nod to their hoarding habit; gold and gems (Nugget, Ingot, Karat, Garnet, Topaz) nod to what they steal; light words (Glint, Glimmer, Tinsel, Sparkle) describe what catches their eye; and thief words (Pilfer, Swipe, Bandit, Lightfingers, the Artful Dodger) describe what they do about it. Soft, round pet names like Snuffkin, Pudding and Button suit their cuddly build.

The best niffler names usually combine two of these: a treasure word that is also short and cute enough to call across a garden. The list also includes a few characterful Edwardian names, in keeping with Newt's 1920s world.
