Mime Name Generator

Mime names borrow almost everything from France. The modern art form runs from Jean-Gaspard Deburau's Pierrot at the Théâtre des Funambules, through Étienne Decroux's corporeal mime, to Marcel Marceau's Bip, the striped-shirt character in a battered top hat with a red flower. That history is why a convincing mime name usually sounds French or Italian (Pierrot, Colombine, Pedrolino), is very short and percussive (Bip, Puff, Zut), or is a single soft noun like Plume, Brume, or Soupir that suggests lightness and silence.

Street and comedy mimes go the other way and name themselves after the bits they do: the invisible wall, the glass box, the rope pull, walking against the wind, the heavy suitcase. Names like Glassbox Gil, Wind Walker Walt, or Monsieur Tiptoe tell the audience what they are about to see. Living-statue performers often take names from materials (Bronze Bruno, Marble Mae) or musical silences (Tacet, Fermata, Sotto Voce).

For a creepy or cursed mime in a story, the trick is the same one horror uses with clowns: an innocent, almost babyish name (Bip Junior, Miss Quietly, The Pale Stranger) becomes unsettling once the character never speaks. Pick the tone first, then the name.
