Juggalo names come out of the Insane Clown Posse scene that grew up around Detroit's Psychopathic Records in the 1990s. The two founders set the template: Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope, one word for menace plus a nickname or number. Their labelmates followed suit with Twiztid (Jamie Madrox and Monoxide), Blaze Ya Dead Homie, Anybody Killa, Boondox, Big Hoodoo, Ouija Macc, and the Psychopathic Rydas with handles like Bullet, Full Clip, Cell Block, Foe Foe and Lil Shank. Album lore added the Dark Carnival cast: the Ringmaster, the Great Milenko, the Amazing Jeckel Brothers, the Riddle Box and the Wraith. Fans who call themselves juggalos and juggalettes borrow the same energy for their own handles at the Gathering and online.

The spelling is half the style. Juggalo names swap C for K (Krazy, Karnival, Klown), S for Z (Bonez, Skullz, Klownz), and lean on horrorcore vocabulary: hatchets, Faygo, greasepaint, carnivals, cemeteries and butcher shops. Alliteration and 'Lil', 'Big', 'Kid' or 'Yung' prefixes are common, and a name is often a nod to a favourite ICP song such as Chicken Huntin', Hokus Pokus or Piggy Pie.
