J-Pop Group Name Generator

J-pop group names follow different rules from K-pop. Where Korean agencies favour sleek acronyms and stylised caps, Japanese idol names lean cute, wordy and playful: a romaji noun phrase (Momoiro Clover Z, Niji no Conquistador), a school or place plus a number (Nogizaka46, AKB48, Shiritsu Ebisu Chugaku), a Hello! Project-style suffix (Morning Musume, Tsubaki Factory, Juice=Juice) or a burst of cheerful Engrish punctuation (Hey! Say! JUMP, Atarashii Gakko!). Food, weather, seasons, flowers and small animals are all fair game, and a name that sounds like a lunchbox or a summer festival is often exactly right.

Boy groups pull the other way: English nouns that sound princely or nocturnal (King & Prince, Snow Man, SixTONES, Travis Japan), or Kansai-flavoured Japanese like Naniwa Danshi. Alt-idol and WACK-style units use aggressive caps with a lowercase i (BiSH, GANG PARADE), while J-rock and J-pop bands go for deadpan English phrases such as Official HIGE DANdism or Mrs. GREEN APPLE.
