Indie Band Name Generator

Indie band names live in a narrow register: specific but not literal, sad but not dramatic, clever without sounding like they are trying. The reliable shapes are an ordinary object pushed somewhere unexpected (Telephone Kites, Velvet Ambulance), a small domestic scene (Porch Light Committee, Apartment Weather), a fake institution (the Lonely Archivists, Blue Swimmers Club), a lowercase phrase that reads like a text message (probably rain, cold pizza club), or a single soft word that is already half a mood (Sunroom, Dovetail). Place names work when they are unglamorous: Ohio, a motel, a highway exit, a cul-de-sac.

Solo indie artists usually go a different way, picking a two-word stage name that sounds like a person who might exist: a short given name plus a nature or texture surname (June Moth, Wren Saturday, Marlowe Vane).
