Role titles in the manner of Goblin Slayer, where nobody has a personal name: adventurers such as Half-Elf Scout, Rhea Fencer and Silver-ranked Lancer, goblin kinds such as Goblin Trapper, quest postings and plain places such as Mill Town.

About Goblin Slayer names

Goblin Slayer, the light novel series by Kumo Kagyu and its manga and anime adaptations, never gives its cast personal names. Everyone is known by a role: Goblin Slayer, Priestess, High Elf Archer, Dwarf Shaman, Lizard Priest, Guild Girl, Cow Girl. A title is usually a job, often with a race, a rank or a plain descriptor in front, and other characters add nicknames of their own, such as Orcbolg and Beard-cutter.

About 40 entries are titles from the series, kept as a small reference block: the main party, some guild regulars, a few goblin kinds and the two towns. The rest are new titles in the same manner, but plain ones can still match the books or side stories, as Half-Elf Scout, Rhea Scout and The Capital do.

The new titles cover warriors and knights, casters, clergy, scouts, and non-human adventurers by race plus job, such as Padfoot Scout and Rhea Fencer. Ranked forms use the ten guild ranks from Porcelain to Platinum, as in Silver-ranked Lancer and Obsidian Monk. There are also townsfolk and guild staff, veterans, nicknames, goblin kinds such as Goblin Trapper and Goblin Chanter, other monsters, quest postings for the guild board and plain places such as Mill Town. The quests stay at the level of rat culls, escorts and nest clearing.

How to choose Goblin Slayer names

  • Build a title from a job, then put one detail in front: a race (Padfoot Scout), a rank (Sapphire Ranger), an age (Greybeard Ranger) or a piece of gear (Tower Shield Guard).
  • Do not add a personal name. In the series even close friends use the title, so a party sheet that reads Hedge Knight, Herb Witch, Rhea Slinger and Temple Novice already sounds right.
  • Let other characters rename your hero. A dwarf, an elf and a guild clerk would each call the same person something different, as in Tin Helm, Quiet-Step or Stuck at Steel.
  • Scale goblins by role, not by name. A nest with a Goblin Sentry, a Goblin Chanter and a Hobgoblin Brute tells players what to expect before the first torch is lit.
  • For a tabletop session, pair a quest posting with a plain place. Rat Cull, Lower Sewers reads like a slip on the guild board, and Quarry Village needs no map to explain it.

Frequently asked questions

Do Goblin Slayer characters have personal names?

No. The series calls everyone by a role or title, from Goblin Slayer and Priestess to Guild Girl and Sword Maiden. This list keeps to that rule: every entry is a title, a nickname, a monster kind, a quest or a place, and none is a personal name.

Which entries are from the series?

About 40, including Goblin Slayer, Priestess, High Elf Archer, Dwarf Shaman, Lizard Priest, Sword Maiden, Heavy Warrior, Spearman, Goblin Lord, Goblin Champion, Frontier Town and Water Town. The other titles, such as Canal Town Clerk and Goblin Trapper, are new, though a plain one can still match the series: Half-Elf Scout and Rhea Scout are also characters in the books and side stories. This is a fan page with no link to the author or the publishers.

What are the adventurer ranks in Goblin Slayer?

The guild has ten ranks, from lowest to highest: Porcelain, Obsidian, Steel, Sapphire, Emerald, Ruby, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. The list uses them in titles such as Porcelain Novice, Steel Shieldman, Silver-ranked Lancer and Gold Sword Master.

Can I use these for a Goblin Slayer tabletop game?

Yes. The titles work for player characters and for the people they meet, and the quest postings and places give a game master quick material, as in Guard the Harvest Wagons or Ford Village. The dark material of the source is left out here, so the quests stay at rat culls, escorts and goblin nests.
