Fullmetal Alchemist Name Generator

Fullmetal Alchemist names have a very specific texture because Hiromu Arakawa modelled Amestris on early twentieth-century Europe and filled it with surnames lifted from military hardware. Roy Mustang, Riza Hawkeye, Jean Havoc, Heymans Breda, Vato Falman and Kain Fuery are all named after aircraft or aircraft makers; Grumman, Hakuro, Raven, Storch, Henschel and Heinkel continue the pattern among the generals and the Briggs soldiers, and Rebecca Catalina and Maria Ross keep it going in the rank and file. Given names are plain Germanic, French or English (Edward, Alphonse, Winry, Maes, Olivier; Izumi is the notable exception), so an original Amestrian character sounds right when you pair an old-fashioned European first name with a surname borrowed from a warplane, a gun maker or a classic car.

The other naming systems are just as deliberate. State Alchemists carry a title granted with their silver watch (Flame, Fullmetal, Strong Arm, Crimson Lotus, Sewing-Life, Iron Blood), usually one or two words describing their specialty. Homunculi are named for the seven deadly sins. Xingese characters use Chinese-style names such as Ling Yao, Lan Fan and May Chang, and Ishvalans have short, Semitic-sounding names, with Scar known only by his nickname.
