Fire Nation names in Avatar: The Last Airbender are short, sharp and drawn from a blend of Japanese, Chinese and Thai sounds. Zuko, Azula, Ozai, Iroh, Sozin and Azulon share hard Z and K consonants and open vowels, which gives the royal family a clipped, martial feel that contrasts with the softer Water Tribe names like Katara or Sokka. Commoners and soldiers tend to get plainer names: Jee, Qin, Ming, Chan, Shyu, and the Ember Island crowd like Ruon-Jian and Chan.

The writers rarely used real-world names untouched. Zuko is close to the Japanese word for a fireplace-like heat, Azula echoes the Spanish word for blue (her signature flame), and Ozai and Sozin are invented but sound like they could be East Asian. Later material expanded the palette: the Kyoshi novels gave us Rangi, Hei-Ran, Zoryu and Chaejin, and Legend of Korra added Fire Nation-descended names like Mako, Bolin, Izumi and Iroh II.

The names here mix every named Fire Nation character from the shows, comics and novels with new names that follow the same phonetic rules, plus a few with hometowns and ranks (Caldera City, Ember Island, Fire Sage, Admiral) for characters who need a fuller introduction. Use them for firebender OCs, fan fiction, tabletop Avatar Legends games and cosplay personas.
