Female Half-Orc Name Generator
Human, orcish and blended names for half-orc women
Female half-orc names for D&D and other fantasy games: orcish given names like Korsha and Durith, human names for city-raised characters like Marta Ashdown, and blends of the two such as Dorsha Lamb, Tilda Stonetusk and Gronna the Patient.
About female Half-Orc names
A half-orc's name says where she grew up. The D&D Player's Handbook puts it plainly: half-orcs usually carry names from the culture that raised them. A woman brought up in a human port may be Marta Ashdown or Hilde Carter, while one raised in an orc camp has an orcish given name and no family name at all. An orcish given name in front of a human surname (Dorsha Lamb, Khadra Osgood) points to a human parent's household; a human given name in front of a tribe name or an earned epithet (Tilda Stonetusk, Runa Spearmother) points to a daughter the tribe kept.
The orcish women's names here are new, written in the D&D style: one to three syllables, hard or throaty consonants (g, k, z, gh, kh, sh) and endings such as -a, -i, -ev and -if, as in Bekka, Korsha, Durith and Yaugha. The given name always comes first. The second name is where the two cultures differ: humans inherit theirs, orcs earn theirs, so an epithet like Ninescars or Oathkeeper can change over a lifetime. A byname with "the" (Gronna the Patient) or a home with "of" (Arzha of the Ash Tusks) does the same job.
The list also holds quoted nicknames of the kind a mercenary company hands out, such as Greta 'Knuckles' Fuller.
How to choose female Half-Orc names
- Decide who raised her first. A city upbringing points to a fully human name like Helga Norcross, an orc camp to a single orcish name like Yaugha or Zensif, and a mixed household to Dorsha Lamb or Tilda Stonetusk.
- Let the second name tell a story. Orcs treat an epithet as something earned, so Ninescars, Oathkeeper or Bridgeburner should match an event in her backstory, and it can change when she does.
- Say it aloud. Names with gh and kh (Maugha, Khadra, Zakhi) sound harsh and foreign in a human town, while Embeth, Bekka and Holva pass without a second look.
- A half-orc who wants to blend in may use a human name in town and keep her orcish name for family. Pick one human name and one orcish name from the list and use both.
- For a nickname your party will really use, shorten the orcish name the way the quoted forms do: Korsha becomes Kori, Dorsha becomes Dot.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good name for a female half-orc?
It depends on her upbringing. Korsha, Durith and Yaugha are orcish given names in the D&D style, Marta Ashdown and Hilde Carter suit a woman raised among humans, and Dorsha Lamb, Tilda Stonetusk and Gronna the Patient blend the two. All of them are in this list.
Do half-orcs use orc names or human names?
Both. The Player's Handbook says half-orcs usually have names from the culture they were raised in, and that some swap one kind for the other, either to fit in among humans or to sound more intimidating. That is why this list holds human names, orcish names and mixtures of the two.
Do half-orcs have last names?
The Player's Handbook lists only given names for orcs, so an orc-raised half-orc has a given name and perhaps an epithet or a tribe, such as Vorsha Ashmane or Zarsha of Clan Ironbraid. A half-orc raised by a human parent normally takes that parent's surname, which gives forms like Khadra Osgood.
Are these the orc names from the Player's Handbook?
No. The handbook's short list of orc women's names is on our female orc page, and this page leaves those names alone. The orcish names here are new ones written in the same style and are not taken from any rulebook, so treat them as homebrew.
