Fantasy Orc Name Generator

Orc names are built to be barked. Tolkien set the template in The Lord of the Rings with names like Azog, Bolg, Shagrat and Grishnákh: one or two syllables, hard stops (g, k, z, sh, gr, kh), almost no soft vowels or liquid consonants. Every major franchise since has kept that sound while adding its own conventions. Dungeons & Dragons orcs favour blunt monosyllables (Krusk, Thokk, Ront) plus longer female names (Kansif, Yevelda, Shautha). Warcraft orcs carry clan surnames and earned epithets: Grommash Hellscream, Durotan of the Frostwolf clan, Orgrim Doomhammer. Elder Scrolls Orsimer take a patronymic prefix, gro- for sons and gra- for daughters, as in Ghorbash gro-Dushnikh or Urzoga gra-Shugharz.

Epithets do the heavy lifting in orc culture. "Skullcrusher" tells you how a warrior fights; "One-Eye", "Half-Tusk" or "Twice-Hanged" tells you what he survived; "Bear-Mother" or "Spear-Widow" hint at status inside the clan. A name-plus-epithet is usually more evocative than a name-plus-invented-surname, and it's how most tabletop players remember an orc NPC.
