Egyptian Kingdom Name Generator

The Egyptians never called their country Egypt. To them it was Kemet, the Black Land of fertile Nile silt, set against Deshret, the Red Land of desert on either side. Politically it was always the Two Lands: Ta-Shemau (Upper Egypt, the narrow valley) and Ta-Mehu (Lower Egypt, the Delta), each with its own crown and patron goddess. Every pharaoh's titulary called him nesut-bity, "He of the Sedge and the Bee," which is why so many good Egyptian kingdom names lean on pairs: two crowns, two ladies, two banks of the river.

Below the kingdom sat the nomes, forty-two provinces with names like Wetjes-Hor ("Throne of Horus") and Ta-Seti ("Land of the Bow"), and beyond the cataracts lay rival realms such as Kush, Kerma, Napata and Meroë. Real Egyptian place names are built from short, sturdy roots: per (house), ta (land), hut (mansion), iunu (pillar), nefer (beautiful), sekhem (power), akhet (horizon), wadj (green). Combine two or three and the result sounds like it belongs on a temple wall.

This generator mixes genuine historical realms and nomes with invented kingdoms, crowns, dynasties and thrones in the same idiom. For a campaign or novel, pick one transliterated name as the native form (Akhmeret) and one English epithet as what foreigners call it (the Kingdom of the Lotus Throne), the way Men-nefer became Memphis.
