Disco Name Generator

Disco names come from a specific moment: New York and Philadelphia between about 1974 and 1980, when soul singers, session orchestras and club DJs suddenly needed names that looked good in lights. Three conventions emerged. Solo acts took glamorous, often alliterative personas that sounded like movie stars (a first name plus a shimmering surname such as Velour, Lamé, Starshine or Rhinestone). Groups borrowed big-band language, calling themselves an Orchestra, Express, Connection, Players or Revue to signal strings, horns and a twelve-minute groove. Clubs and parties leaned on luxury and light: mirrorballs, velvet, champagne, penthouses, platforms and anything that could be spelled in neon.

The vocabulary is consistent. Textures (satin, velvet, silk, polyester), light (strobe, glitter, neon, starlight), movement (hustle, boogie, bump, shimmy) and nightlife geography (lounge, loft, ballroom, roller rink) do most of the work, usually in pairs that roll off the tongue. French and Italian touches add Euro-disco gloss, which is why names like Discothèque Dorée and Bianca Bellissima feel period-correct.
