Generate shade names for powder, cream, liquid and stick blush: cheek and flush wordplay like Caught Blushing and Freshly Pinched, reasons to blush like Good News and Reply All, and color names from Apricot Silk to Plum Dusk and Kiln Fired.

About blush names

A blush shade name has one job: to sell a flush of color in one to three words. The names that work best are about the flush itself, which is what sets them apart from lipstick and eyeshadow names. That means cheek, pinch and flush wordplay (Caught Blushing, Freshly Pinched, Royal Flush), the reasons people go pink (Good News, Flustered, They Texted Back, Reply All) and the weather that does it for free: Wind Chill, Brisk Walk, First Frost, In From the Cold.

The rest of the list is organized by color family, so a full range can be named from one page. Peach, apricot, coral and melon cover the warm light shades (Apricot Silk, Coral Cove). Pinks and roses come next (Satin Petal, Peony Bud), then berries, plums and wine tones for deep shades (Plum Dusk, Crushed Raspberry) and terracotta, brick and clay for warm deep ones (Kiln Fired, Exposed Brick). Garden names, finish-led names for matte, satin, shimmer and dewy formulas (Dewy Dahlia, Checkmatte) and a few desserts and drinks round it out.

Blush is also sold as blusher, rouge or blush on, and these names suit all of them. A plain color word will match a shade somebody already sells, so check a name before it goes on a product.

How to choose blush names

  • Name the color of the product, never the wearer. Wind Chill, Plum Dusk and Kiln Fired describe a shade anyone can pick up, while a skin-tone label on a blush tells many shoppers it is not for them.
  • Build a range that runs from light to deep. Pair soft shades such as White Peach or Petal Soft with deep ones such as Black Currant, Damson and Terracotta Tile, so every complexion has a choice.
  • Let the name hint at the finish: Dewy Dahlia and Glazed Apricot for a sheen, Matte Magnolia and Powder Soft for a flat finish, Shimmer Shell for sparkle.
  • Keep one voice across a collection. A set of weather names (First Frost, Sea Breeze, Alpenglow) or of reasons to blush (Smitten, Good News, Encore Please) reads as a family on a shelf.
  • Search any name together with the word blush before you print labels, and look through the shade lists of the big brands. Short color names are often already in use.

Frequently asked questions

What makes a good blush shade name?

It is short, easy to say and suggests a flush of color or a feeling. Names about cheeks and blushing do that most directly, such as Caught Blushing, Cheekbone Sweep or Color in My Cheeks. A color cue helps people who shop online, as in Soft Coral or Deep Berry.

How are blush names different from lipstick names?

Lipstick names lean on lips, reds and drama. Blush names are softer and are usually about a healthy flush, flowers, fruit and warmth: Brisk Walk, Peach Orchard, Rosebud, Hearth. That is why this list leaves lip words out and gives a whole family to reasons to blush.

Can I use these names for my own makeup line?

Use them as ideas, and do your own checks first. Nobody has compared this list with the shades that brands already sell, and some names will match one, above all the plain color names. Search the name and the brand registers of the countries where you sell before it goes on packaging.

Do the names work for cream, liquid and stick blush?

Yes. The names describe a color or a mood and not a formula, so they fit powder, cream, liquid and stick blush alike. For a formula cue, pick from the finish-led names, such as Sheer Petal for a light wash or Velveteen for a soft matte.
