About BattleTag names

A BattleTag is the name on your Battle.net account, and it follows you through World of Warcraft, Diablo, Overwatch, Hearthstone and StarCraft. The rules are strict and they shape every name here: 3 to 12 characters, letters and digits only, no spaces or symbols, and no digit in first place. Accented letters count as letters, so Élan and Jötunn are legal. Battle.net adds a number after a # by itself, so the same word can belong to many players, and nothing here is promised to be yours alone.

Every entry on this page is one word inside those limits. Clean fantasy tags such as Frostwick, Thornmere and Gravelight suit a Warcraft main; darker ones like Grimveil and Hollowfang read well in a Diablo party. Short CamelCase pairs (IronLark, ColdBrew) buy a second word without a space. Then come the jokes: raid humor (Critmas, OutOfMana, Stoodinfire), card-table tags (Topdeck, MissedLethal), dungeon names (Pitdelver, Mimicbait) and strategy-game tags (Pylonless, Supplyblock). Cozy tags and short ones of four to six letters, like Vexa and Brask, round the list out.

How to choose BattleTag names

  • Count before you commit. Twelve characters is the ceiling, and a tag such as TankAndSpank or Doppelgänger sits right on it, so there is no room left to add anything.
  • Let capitals do the work of a space. RedOtter and LowTide read as two words at a glance, where the same letters in lower case look like a typo.
  • Pick a tag that fits every game you play. A raid joke like Wipefest follows you into Hearthstone and Diablo, so choose a broad one such as Emberlyn if you move between games.
  • Digits are allowed anywhere except the first character: Roll4Loot is legal, 4Loot is not. Skip numbers that look like a birth year.
  • An accented letter can lift a plain word, as in Übertank or Brûlée, but remember that friends have to type it when they add you.

Can I change my BattleTag later?

Yes, in your Battle.net account settings. Blizzard has given each account one free change, with later changes sold as a paid service, so it is worth choosing a tag you can live with in every game. Check the current terms on the account page before you switch.
