Bar Name Generator

Bar names have a longer history than almost any other kind of business name, and every era left a template. British pubs gave us the heraldic and trade-sign tradition – "The Red Lion," "The Rose & Crown," "The Blacksmith's Arms" – which originally existed as pictures for customers who couldn't read. American saloons of the 1800s were blunt and boastful ("The Bucket of Blood," "The Long Branch"). Prohibition produced coded speakeasy names like "The Blind Tiger," and the modern cocktail revival borrowed drink names, bitters, and old-fashioned nouns to sound like they'd been open since 1925 ("Death & Co," "The Violet Hour," "Attaboy").

Structure follows type. Neighborhood pubs and taverns almost always start with "The" plus an object or animal, often paired with an ampersand ("The Fox & Hound"). Cocktail bars drop "The" and go for one or two words that sound like a whispered address ("Little Branch," "Vesper Lounge"). Dive bars use a first name with a possessive ("Lucky's," "Frankie's") or self-deprecating slang ("The Bottom Shelf"). Tiki, wine, and rooftop bars borrow from their setting: coves and bamboo, corks and vines, skylines and terraces.

For a real business, check that no other bar in your city already trades under the name and that the domain and Instagram handle are free. For fiction and games, the same rules apply in reverse – a tavern named like a British pub reads medieval, a name like "Neon Moon" instantly sets a scene.
