Next is the industrial or blue-collar style, borrowed from foundries, mills, and rail depots (Founders, Boilermaker, Ironworks), which suits a converted warehouse and a lineup of solid ales. Animal mascots (Flying Dog, Stone, Lagunitas' dog, Odell's Drumroll) give you a logo for free, and offbeat or self-deprecating names (Night Shift, Side Project, Stubborn Mule) signal a fun taproom.

Brewing vocabulary is worth mining too. Mash tun, wort, foeder, cooperage, cellarman, lupulin, and hop varieties like Citra, Mosaic, and Simcoe make names that beer drinkers recognize instantly. Old-world touches (Bierhaus, Brauhaus, Abbey, Saison) work if you actually brew in that tradition.

Whatever direction you take, remember the name will be shortened. Sierra Nevada is "Sierra," Bell's is "Bell's," and "Whistling Pine Brewery" will become "Whistling Pine." Make sure the first two words stand on their own, and run a trademark search early: the beer category is one of the most crowded in the USPTO database.
