Singaporean Name Generator

A Singaporean name almost always tells you which community someone comes from and, often, which generation. Chinese Singaporeans, about three quarters of the population, mostly carry dialect-romanised surnames (Tan, Lim, Lee, Ng, Ong, Goh, Chua, Koh, Teo) followed by a two-syllable given name: Tan Wei Ming, Lim Hui Ling. Older generations show Hokkien and Teochew spellings like Ah Kow, Siew Lan and Beng Huat, while younger ones lean toward Mandarin pinyin sounds such as Jun Hao, Zi Xuan and Yu Tong. Many people also use an English or Christian given name in front, producing the very Singaporean Kelvin Tan Wei Liang or Jasmine Lim Pei Ying.

Malay Singaporeans use patronymics rather than surnames, bin (son of) or binti (daughter of): Muhammad Irfan bin Rosli, Nurul Ain binti Hamzah, with Arab-Malay family names such as Aljunied and Alsagoff among older merchant clans. Indian Singaporeans are mostly Tamil, with names like Vikneswaran Rajendran or the official s/o and d/o form, alongside Punjabi Sikh, Malayali, and Indian Muslim names such as Marican and Beevi. Eurasians carry Portuguese, Dutch, and British surnames like Pereira, de Souza, Tessensohn and Oliveiro.
